A Letter from the Co-Chairs
To our community:
As co-chairs for the 2017 Fostering Change, Jenn and I wanted to share with you a bit about our personal goals and how we came together so many years ago.
We both were born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, and met at National Charity League at the age of 13. While attending different schools, National Charity League provided us an opportunity to build a lifelong friendship while working together to support our local community. Upon returning to the Peninsula a few years ago, we reconnected through our daughters who are in the same class. Jenn has been a member of the Board of Voices for Children, CASA, Monterey County, since 2014, and I joined last May.
As I’m sure many of you do, we feel truly blessed to raise our families in such an amazing community. That said, there are many children in our community that are not as fortunate and need our help, specifically the 420 foster care youth, many of whom have been abused and neglected. Jenn and I are committed to this organization and to doing everything we can to ensure that every one of these children are given opportunity through court appointed special advocates (CASAs) fighting on their behalf.
CASAs serve as a voice for some of the most vulnerable children in our county. We ensure these youth receive the critical support services they deserve by providing them with a volunteer advocate, an everyday citizen who champions their best interests and fights for their right to a happy, safe life. Today, our organization supports 189 children, and our goal is to meet the needs of all 420 foster care youth in our county.
The annual gala, this year re-invented “the 2017 Fostering Change Gala”, contributes to over one third of our annual operating budget. Jenn and my personal goal this year is to raise over $350,000. Normally these are not numbers that are publically shared, but this year we felt it important to share our goal because it is significantly higher than we have raised in the past. In order to reach our goal of supporting all of the Monterey County foster care youth, we need to truly impact change. To do this, we need your help.
Our commitment to you is an unforgettable evening, with memories to last a lifetime. So please, we ask that you consider attending and supporting the 2017 Fostering Change Gala. It will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Carmel Valley Ranch, Carmel, California. Please do not hesitate to reach out to either of us should you have any questions about the organization, the gala, etc.
In closing, we thank you. We thank you for listening, and we thank you for your consideration.
Gianna and Jenn
